Japan Cruise Port Stops

Japan has long been a vacation destination. Its mix of beaches and mountains as well as its culture make it a unique place to visit. Thus, a cruise ship stop at one of these ports is a way to enjoy this island nation.

One of the port stops is located in Tokyo, Japan. This port stop is also called Yokohama, after the city on Tokyo Bay. Tokyo is the capital city of Japan and one of the most sophisticated cities in the world. Yet, it still has places where you can catch a glimpse of Tokyo’s past. One of the sites to visit in Tokyo is the Miji temple. This temple is unique because it is surrounded by forest. Another place to check out is the Sensoji Temple. This temple is a glimpse into the past of Japan. It was built in the seventh century, making it one of the oldest temples for visitors to view. You can also visit the more modern day Tokyo Tower. Mount Fuji is also accessible from this port city.

Another port stop is located at Kobe, Japan (pictured). This is one of Japan’s busiest ports. It is also one of the areas in which you can tour Japan’s past. Kyoto is a nearby ancient capital city of Japan that still has ancient sites to explore. One of those sites is the Golden Pavilion. The temple is covered in gold leaf and is surrounded by gardens. The Nijo Castle is over 400 years old and features well-kept gardens as well as moat. Two rings of fortifications still surround this castle. Mount Rokko is also available for climbing. Its peak reaches 3000 feet above sea level. At the top are gardens and an observation deck. There is also an island which features whirlpools and one of the longest suspension bridges in the world.

Otaru, Japan, features one of Japan’s canals. Built as a railroad city, it is famous for its herring museums as well as its music boxes. Today, the city is one of Japan’s most popular tourist destinations. The city has a canal which are lined by stone warehouses that showcase some of the past. The Jyozankei Hot Springs are a popular destination for relaxation in the city. Mount Tengu is a popular ski resort during the winter months. Winter may be the best time to visit this port city. But the cliffs in the area also attract visitors during the summer months.

These are the cruise port stops in Japan. Each features their own unique things to see and do. Tokyo represents the modern day Japan. Kobe brings in access to ancient Japan and Otaru is unique for its canal and hot springs. Check the cruise lines’ destinations if you want to visit any of these ports in Japan.
