Peter Shankman is an author, entrepreneur and speaker who travels all over the world for work. This year alone, he traveled over 350,000 miles via airplane. For reference, the moon is 238,000 miles away, so Peter has essentially flown to the moon and partway back throughout 2016.
That means Peter has a lot, I mean a LOT, of frequent fliermiles racked up. He usually gives the extra miles to his assistant, his family and his friends. But given how much he traveled this year, even after giving his coworkers and friends airline miles, he still has leftover miles.
So instead of letting the miles go to waste, Peter wants to help strangers get home for the holidays. After successfully sending people home last year, he wants to do the same this year.
Peter shared his story on Imgur, an image sharing website, writing, “I pretty much live on an airplane, and it’s pretty cool. With the exception of missing my three-year-old daughter when I’m on the road, I consider myself incredibly lucky to live the life I do.”
Taking Peter up on his offer is pretty easy anyone who is an Imgur user who legitimately can’t afford to get home for the holidays is eligible.
And Peter wants other Imgur users decide who is most deserving. On December 2nd, Peter will announce who the lucky winners are.
He wrote, “I’d like to send at least two, (hopefully three or four or more) [people] home for the holidays this year, because I like making people smile.
“I truly want to say thank you for the joy this site has given me when I needed it most, and this is the best way I know how to do that.
“… let’s see what kind of magic we can come together to do this year. Happy holidays!”
